At the same time period when black slaves were first transported to America, North Africans and Turks were enslaving and profiting from the white slave trade too. That’s right, they were taking white men women and children from England and selling them for profit. White slaves were called “white gold” by the slave traders. They captured English ships , they came on land to coastal areas to kidnap whites.

As sick as it is , this is just how civilization was at that point it’s what they did. Back then slaves be them black , white or brown were just a commodity, like cattle. It was not the case of whites targeting blacks, it was the absolute fact that everyone was enslaving other nations , hell Africans were capturing each other and selling their own people to the slave masters. It’s just how things were done back then.

“More whites were brought as slaves to North Africa than blacks brought as slaves to the United States or to the 13 colonies from which it was formed. White slaves were still being bought and sold in the Ottoman Empire, decades after blacks were freed in the United States.” Thomas Sowel

Rule Britania: A well known British Patriotic song that many when they hear the lyrics “Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves. Britons never never never shall be slaves” wrongfully perceive it is the British literally saying they are all powerful and will enslave you. The reverse is actually true. It originally was a poem by James Thomson 1740. More a rallying cry to keep spirit’s up , a cry for help during a very dark time for Britain. Britain at that point did not rule the waves and thousands continued to be enslaved by the black slave traders from Africa

It was not the English who entrapped the first slaves to bring to America. It was the Portuguese, It was English pirates who after a confrontation took the slaves on board their vessel and headed to James town .

The very first recorded “legal” slave master to own a slave for life was Anthony Johnson ( a black slave master) His indentured servant John Casor should have been allowed his freedom from Johnson after he served his 6 years (just like Johnson did from his master ) but Johnson did not want to release him and took the matter to the courts. He won the case, this set into law a slave can be owned for life. https://www.facinghistory.org/reconstruction-era/anthony-johnson-man-control-his-own

In the 1800’s South Carolina alone there were 171 recorded black slave masters. William Ellison was one of the wealthiest of these owning a large plantation and owning 66 black slaves. He was also a slave breeder , deliberately making slaves breed to sell on their children. Something most of the white slave traders thought was wrong. https://historyengine.richmond.edu/episodes/view/6699

The Cherokee Indians owned 600 black slaves, the Chickasaw Indians owned 1,500 Black slaves.

Legally if a white slave master had a child with a black slave upon the death of the father the child took possession of the land and ownership of the slaves. This was written into white law.

In 1830 there were 3,775 free black people who owned 12,740 black slaves.
